Black Girl Magic Books!
Chaunetta Anderson is a Maryland-based children’s book author, educator, and proud believer in the power of representation.
Before becoming an author, Chaunetta spent over a decade as a public school educator, pouring into young minds and witnessing firsthand the importance of children seeing themselves reflected in the stories they read. She always dreamed of writing children’s books but wasn’t quite sure how to begin. When the world paused during the Covid-19 pandemic, she finally gave herself permission to figure it out; and BGM Books was born.
In May 2020, she published her first book, Black Girl Magic Sprinkles, a heartfelt celebration of confidence, culture, and self-love. That first publication marked the beginning of a growing collection of stories centered around children of color; stories filled with joy, affirmation, and authenticity.
Now working on her fifth book, The Many Ways We Speak, Chaunetta continues her mission of, "diversifying libraries, one book at a time."
Beyond the pages, she is a proud mom, daughter, sister, friend, soror, and lifelong learner who believes stories have the power to shape identity, build confidence, and spark imagination.
Through BGM Books, Chaunetta creates stories where children don’t just read about magic, they see that they are magic.
